Typhoon Warning is now in effect for Guam and Rota
A Typhoon Warning is now in effect for Guam and Rota, as Typhoon Mawar continues to track toward the Marianas.
This means damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected within 24 hours.
Additionally, a Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Saipan and Tinian, meaning damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected within 24 hours.
As of 10 a.m., Mawar was located about 355 miles south-southeast of Guam with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph.
Typhoon-force winds are likely across Guam and the CNMI with the onset of tropical storm conditions starting as early as Tuesday morning.
A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area. Heavy rainfall is likely to develop late tonight through the next few days with rainfall amounts of 9 to 15 inches possible.
Dangerous surf of 15 to 25 feet is likely initially along south and east-facing reefs, while hazardous surf is likely to spread to west-facing reefs Thursday or Friday as Mawar moves into the Philippine Sea.
