GDOE to report on school damage
It’s been two weeks since the typhoon has made its way to Guam’s shores and there has been no statement from the Guam Department of Education on school damages and assessments.
In videos sent to KUAM showed schools had sustained a number of impairments from missing and watered down ceiling tiles, broken doors, to outside bleachers meant to support dozens of people -- thrown up against the metal fences, bending them.
School staff are seen also cleaning up inside of rooms that have been flooded in as well as gathering up debris that’s been scattered throughout the campuses.
Answers from the department should be coming. GDOE officials will be speaking to the Guam Legislature about typhoon damages on Wednesday morning according to GDOE spokeswoman, Michelle Franquez.
Wettengel, Machanao, Astumbo and Maria Ulloa Elementary schools are still being used as shelters, housing families who have been greatly affected by Typhoon Mawar.
They are at full capacity and not accepting any more residents.
