Pagat neighborhood shaken by murder
From the roadside, it appears to be any other home. But the white house with blue trim gated in Pagat, Mangilao is where Army veteran Jason Susuico took his final breath.
The windows today are shuttered. There’s furniture and other items left dumped outside on the property.
But a quick glance – you would have never known of the gruesome killing that unfolded here at the beginning of the year.
KUAM spoke with multiple neighbors living along Route 15 today - still in shock to learn that a murder happened so close to home.
"It’s scary," one neighbor told KUAM News.
He's been living in the area for almost 10 years with family. The murder took place just steps away from their home.
"That something tragic can happen right next to you and you wouldn’t even know," the man said. "It’s crazy out here these days."
The crime scene also neighbors the popular golf course in the village.
"This is a family place and it’s normal things that just happen here," the man said. "I know that my sister-in-law got robbed a couple months ago, and even having a gated wall that would rattle you and keep you concerned of what’s happening these days."
Susuico’s body was found badly decomposed in the jungle area off Route 15 in Yigo back in January – about four miles up the street from where the alleged killing occurred.
It was through police sources that investigators have now been able to pinpoint two suspects.
Defendants Jason Babauta and Cynthia Quinata both face charges of aggravated murder and guilt by complicity in the Superior Court of Guam.
Quinata allegedly lured Susuico to the home to use meth when the attack occurred. Police learned it was over a drug deal gone wrong.
Another nearby resident said the neighborhood is usually quiet -- made up of mostly families.
We asked if she's ever seen Quinata.
"We saw them but we don’t really, you know -- we don't talk to them," she said.
Neighbors recall hearing people arguing at the home daily. The woman agreed she's also seen lots of police activity.
"Yeah. A lot most of the time," she said. "We just see it but we don’t stop by or look at them."
Police sources alleged there were two others involved in beating Susuico to death before using a car to dump his body.
Criminal detectives are not releasing any information about the two unnamed suspects.
As of Monday afternoon, both unknown suspects remain at large.
This stretch of road is the same area where a pregnant woman was randomly shot at back in 2019 while on her way home from work. The mother survived the incident.
For now, residents today are left having to watch out for one another, adding there’s still a need for greater police presence.
"We don’t like that kind of people. Why on our street? We don’t want anybody like that who can be linked to us or next to us," a third neighbor said. "We don’t like that."
While authorities have yet to arrest the two remaining suspects believed to be on the run, both Babauta and Quinata remain held in the Department of Corrections.
Prison records show Babauta has multiple criminal cases against him that goes back to 2012. Just this past February, he was arrested for aggravated assault in an alleged carjacking.
