The need for mold mitigation at Guam Department of Education campuses has been making headlines as Guam doe commits its schools are still striving to meet public health standards.
But with mold remediation still tied up and with schools set to open on Aug. 23, is GDOE welcoming students into mold-ridden environments? GDOE Deputy Superintendent Erika Cruz shared what they are doing about it.
“If schools are indicating that they are ready to open and welcome students on Aug. 23, it is assumed that they have addressed their mold mitigation or most of it," she said. " If an area is deemed not safe for a student, the area is cordoned off to the general public or to the students, faculty, and staff.”
The deputy superintendent says school readiness declaration forms filled out by school administrators on her desk for review and for the superintendent’s signature of approval. This process will ensure schools are ready to open.
Cruz relayed to the public that GDOE has been working feverishly to get students back to learning and will not send them into unsafe conditions.
