Rota leaders comment as Typhoon Bolaven approaches

Posted: Updated:

As Typhoon Bolaven is expected to pass directly over or very near Rota Tuesday night, the island’s legislative delegation offered their words of support.

House Rep. Julie Ogo said, “I am sending out my heartfelt prayers to the people of the CNMI, especially the people on my home island of Rota. Please be safe. My thoughts are with all of you during this rough journey. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Honorable Governor Palacios, the Honorable Lt. Governor Apatang, the Honorable Mayor Aubry Hocog, all the first responders, those who are at the emergency command centers, who are away from their families to unselfishly carry out their duties to assist others in this anxious time.”

Sen. Paul Manglona added, “As the typhoon is heading just a little north of Rota, we're praying that our people in the next 3 to 4 hours can be spared of injuries and damages to their homes and farms. We have been unfortunate in the last few years with so many typhoons heading our way. A serious concern for the island of  Rota after the typhoon will be shipping services to Rota. Some businesses have raised concerns that there are no cargo voyages scheduled for Rota in the month of October and November.”

Rota Sen. Dennis Mendiola told KUAM, “I urge everyone to prioritize safety as we brace for Typhoon Bolaven. Our thoughts and prayers are with our community during this challenging time. Please stay indoors, hunker down, and follow local authorities' instructions. Together, we will weather this storm, and may God guide us safely through it.”

Rota Sen. Donald Manglona shared, “I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being as the storm passes. We can never tell what damages may come whenever weather like this comes through, but one thing is constant is our faith in God and our strength to pick up the pieces. Whatever may happen once the skies clear, we can always rely on each other to get through this.”
