Parks & Rec excited to reopen Dededo Pool following final inspection
At long last, Guamanians could once again use of a popular community facility that's been off-limits for far too long. The Dededo Pool underwent its final inspection from Public Health this week, with experts conducting quality checks for compliance with updated standards.
Deputy director for the Department of Parks & Recreation Warren Pelletier told KUAM News, "Everything's all squared away right now; we've done our walkthrough and so based on the walkthrough, there should be no delays."
A thorough inspection of the recreational facility noted the Dededo Pool's readiness with respect to mechanical, health and safety, and operational concerns.
"A lot of the pumps had to be replaced and things of that sort," Pelletier continued, "so everything's done, and everything's changed-out, and we're so ready to get it going. We're ready, and the people Guam deserve it. It's ready for them."
He also said the Agana Pool could reopen following a long-overdue rebuild by next spring, with Pelletier commenting, "The next project
to tackle would be the Agana Pool, it's about 90% done in the design stage, it's almost finished. The target date for construction to start is around August, and that's fingers crossed." He also said with luck, the central pool could reopen 6-8 months after construction begins.
The inspection itself went very well, with only minor concerns noted about restroom heating and safety signs, which were quickly resolved. The official report is forthcoming from Public Health, with Parks & Rec very confident about its outcome.
Pelletier also encourages the community to be stewards of the pools and all parks, noting how they're our facilities, and while they shoulder the burden operations and maintenance, it's up to us to keep them usable and avoid future delays.
