The search for the next CNMI Department of Public Safety Commissioner continues after Gov. Arnold Palacios asked Clement Bermudes to resign in January.

Bermudes held the position for less than a year and told KUAM News in an exclusive interview that he was not informed why he was asked to leave.

On Monday, KUAM News asked Palacios if he would appoint Acting Commissioner Anthony Macaranas to the post permanently.

Palacios said, "I can't tell you that right now. That decision will be made soon."

On his first day on the job as Acting Commissioner, long-time police officer Anthony Macaranas told KUAM News he would accept the appointment if Palacios selects him to permanently hold the position.

Palacios added, "I am glad that he's showing interest. We will let you know...when we make those decisions."

The appointment requires Senate confirmation.
