Guam Women's Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jarneec Halsey and the newly elected board are excited for their first event of the year. Halsey said the idea for the fashion show came through a conversation with a friend.

“We pitched the idea to the board and because it's a new board, we wanted to do some new and refreshing things, we decided to go with a fashion show,” said Halsey.

And with February being Black History Month, Halsey reached out to the African Diaspora Culture Committee for assistance.

She said planning it has been an incredible process for everyone involved. As for what people can expect?

Halsey explained, “It’s more than a fashion show, it's an experience. We have music, a little bit of dancing, vendors that came out. We have a silent auction, an art gallery,  and all that great stuff.”

The fashion that will be featured and available for purchase is from Oringo African Couture located in Tamuning, a woman owned business offering african apparel, jewelry, and artifacts.

Halsey said, “Black History Month is about rhythm and resilience....we wanted to make sure we highlight her because she is also a member of the chamber and we do want to let people know that she is a member of the community.”

Drake Wilson, who is one of the models , is also a member of the ADCC. he said practice for the show has been fun

“Everybody just getting into the vibe of things....showing their support in that way, it's just been fun. I'm extremely excited to see how it's gonna be on the 24th. It's gonna be a vibe, I'm all for it,” he expressed.

Rhythms of Resilience takes place on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Women's Business Center.

Tickets are just $35 and can be purchased by going to guamwomenschamber.com. Click events.
