The CNMI Department of Corrections (DOC) escorted Charles Lee Dewey III to the Saipan International Airport where Indiana law enforcement took him into custody for extradition to Indiana last Thursday.

Dewey will now face the charges against him in court.

Dewey moved to Saipan in 2022 under the alias Carter Allen Widmor. Dewey was arrested on Saipan by CNMI authorities in January.

He fled Indiana with at least six active warrants dating back to 2020 for cases involving rape, sexual misconduct with a minor, and drugs.

CNMI DOC Commissioner Anthony Torres thanked the U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, the Department of Public Safety, and the Attorney General’s Office for their partnership in the case.

Torres told KUAM News, “We all come together and we work collectively to apprehend individuals who think they can come to Saipan as a safe haven.”

He added, “As a community, I do know that we must remain vigilant and aware of individuals who seek refuge in our islands to evade accountability for crimes committed elsewhere. While our islands are a place of warmth and hospitality, it is not a safe haven for those seeking to escape justice.”
