It’s National Salvation Army week and Maj. Eric Tumale, a Guam Corps Officer, is calling on the island community for donations to replenish the Salvation Army Guam's food pantry.

The shelves in the pantry are currently bare.

According to Tumale, the food pantry is a service they offer to the community for those in need of assistance.

The food pantry provides a variety of basic-need items from canned goods to baby food to help families regain household food security.

Tumale said some of the items that are needed include, “Non-perishable and perishable food items.”

“It can vary from pasta, it can vary from canned foods like vegetables, fruits, and oatmeal," he said. "And all perishables like vegetables and powdered milk. It can help struggling families."

Any family that needs assistance can avail of the food pantry once a month.

The food pantry is open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Walk-ins are welcomed.

During the afternoon, you can call (671) 477-9855 to set up an appointment.

Other ways to help out include dropping off food donations to their office in Tiyan, or you can make a monetary donation online: guam.salvationarmy.org.
