The Guam Philharmonic Foundation, Incorporated, GUAM ACTE and PBS Guam are inviting interested students and the general public to the 2nd Exploring Careers through Music Public Talk and Career Expo slated for Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Micronesia Mall’s GPF Hall.

Exhibitors include the United States Marine Corps Recruiting and Soka University.

Exploring Careers through Music is a new career education partnership between the Guam ACTE, the Guam Philharmonic Foundation, Incorporated and PBS Guam to spotlight local professionals with hidden musical talent and continue their musical proficiency through active music making.

Exploring Careers through Music hopes to provide Guam’s youth the access to people and programs who can mentor Guam’s future generation into various career fields while encouraging continuous participation in music making.

Panelists will each provide a brief lecture on their journey to their current profession and expound on how music was part of that journey.

A question and answer (Q&A) period will follow and the session will close with a musical performance.

Panelists include:

  • Marcus Landon Aydlett – Warning Coordination Meteorologist, National Weather Service (Trumpet)
  • Louise Borja – Former senator, Program Coordinator for the Comprehensive Cancer Control program for the DPHSS (vocalist)
  • Krystal Paco San Agustin, MPA, CM – Director of Communications for the Office of the Governor of Guam (vocals/ saxophone)
  • Captain Banjamin Hutto, PharmD – Pharmacist, United States Air Force (tuba)

Exhibitors:

  • Soka University – A US accredited liberal arts university in California offering full-ride 4-year scholarships to eligible Guam/CNMI students. Meet with representatives and ask questions. 
  • US Marine Corps – Musician Enlistment Option Program. Meet with USMC recruiters and see how they can get you to become a member of the USMC bands.
