Liberation Day less than two months away, mayors iron out kinks

With Liberation Day less than two months away, village mayors are ironing out the kinks for the island’s biggest celebration to commemorate the day Guam was liberated from the Japanese occupation.
Sinajana Mayor Robert Hoffman and Piti Mayor Jesse Alig exchanged some words on the upcoming celebration.
Sinajana Mayor Hoffamn: The other two variables are the ARC Raider Memorial, if it's still going to happen and where because that decides Queen’s Breakfast.
Piti Mayor Alig: We’re not having a Queen’s Breakfast.
Hoffman: Yes, now that we know that, that eliminates some time.
While there won’t be a carnival, the festivities are still expected to be packed full of events.
Leading up to the big day, there will be a VR experience at the Guam Museum on July 16, a solemn mass and unified memorial on July 19, a block party on July 20 and 21 at the Paseo village huts, the iconic parade of floats, and a fireworks show.
“We’re anticipating the push off from Adelup at 8 a.m., so they reach the grandstand by 9 a.m. so we’re moving the parade up by one hour. In the front part of the parade will be the government and military. After that will be all the everything else of Guam,” said Hoffman.
There are also plans underway to light up the Plaza de Espana at night with a special memorial show.
“We have 3050 individual lights that will show up in the shape of the island of Guam, which will signify each soul that was lost during that time,” he added.
Meantime, mayors said there will be a visiting liberator who is 99 years old but they are still searching for a WWII survivor to be a keynote speaker.
