Rear Admiral Brent Devore takes command of Joint Region Marianas
“I relieve you. I stand relieved.”
With these words comes the official transfer of command at Joint Region Marianas, as Rear Admiral Greg Huffman handed over the reins to Rear Admiral Brent Devore.
This symbolic passing of the torch was marked by a ceremony in true naval tradition of the big Navy today.
During the transfer of command, Rear Adm. Huffman said, “Command Joint Task Force Micronesia. I am ready to be relieved.”
“Report as Commander, Naval Forces Marianas, and Commander of Joint Region Marianas,” said Rear Adm. Devore.
Rear Admiral Huffman bidded farewell to his role at JRM to assume Command at Joint Task Force Micronesia, a move he said is a strong commitment by the Department of Defense to work closely with regional partners to enhance operational capability and flexibility.
This comes as military officials in attendance said the threat from China continues to grow every day.
“With these capabilities, we will ultimately drive towards deterrence. Advisories will see the work that we’re doing and the posture that we’re setting throughout the region and think, ‘not today,’” said Huffman.
Meantime, Devore described his commitment at JRM as two for the price of one as huffman will remain on Guam with Joint Task Force Micronesia.
“Double the energy, double the enthusiasm, double the commitment to our important work here,” said Devore.
Devore also made this vow as he assumed command, stating, “My pledge is this–simply to listen and to learn. To be a good teammate and to give you my very best. We have lots of work to do, and we’re gonna get after it. Together, we will do great things. Si Yu’os Ma’ase and God bless.”
Meanwhile, the assumption of Command for JTFM is underway.
