Some residents saw a white object with a flashing light up in the sky early this morning. A viewer sent us a video captured from Tumon just after 2:30 a.m. today.

So it begs the question, what could it be?

The U.S. Army Pacific and the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense confirmed they are conducting High Altitude Balloon training near the Mariana Islands this month.

The military said the training will provide the defense department with validation of extended range sensing capability and will enhance maritime domain awareness.

Several balloons launched from the A.B. Won Pat International Airport, reached a cruising altitude above 50,000 feet.

The balloons will be recovered in the continental U.S. The activity is expected to continue through June 18.
