It’s been 80 years since Guam was liberated.

The 80th Liberation is set to begin on July 17 at the Guam Museum, which would also include a World War II virtual experience through July 20.

On July 19, a mass is planned at the Cathedral Basilica, a unified memorial at Plaza de Espana, and a static display that will include more than 3,000 luminaries.

The static display will be in place through the 21st.

A block party will also be held at the CHamoru Village huts in Paseo on July 20 and 21 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On July 21, Sunday, the parade floats and performers will line Marine Corps Drive from Adelup toward CHamoru village, starting at 8 a.m.

But, among the main attractions, each celebration comes with the crowning of the Liberation Queen.

This year, representing the village of Mangilao, our Queen is Layla Cabrini Delgado Espinal.

Now, along her journey to the crown, Espinal fundraised more than $52,000 allowing her to secure the top title among the 80th Liberation Day Royal Court.

The 2024 Liberation Princesses also collected a total of $173, 784 for this year's festivities.

Congratulations to Royal Princess Aaliya Benin of Santa Rita-Sumai, and Princesses Mara Mendiola of Tamuning, Patricia Leon Guerrero of Piti, Nevaeh Finona of Dededo and Jianna Gutierrez of Asan-Maina.

While the money raised will support the needs of the celebration, a portion will also go to this year's candidates and sponsors.

The Queen's coronation is set for July 7 at Hilton Guam Resort and Spa.

The community will also get to see Queen Layla and the rest of the Royal Court on the parade route as we celebrate Guam's 80th Liberation in Hagatna.
