Tumon Bay Mall considered as temporary site for Sanchez High students
Another bite for the Home of the Sharks, as Guam Department of Education Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Swanson announced during this month’s Guam Education Board meeting that the vacant Tumon Bay Mall is now under consideration to be the temporary campus for Simon Sanchez High School.
Goodwind Development Corporation is the developer and management company for Tumon Bay Mall, which was purchased in 2012.
It features two stories totaling over 190,000 square feet with on-site parking for more than 700 vehicles.
“We will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the students of Simon Sanchez High School can find a temporary home as soon as possible. It is still uncertain at this time if the extension of FEMA’s deadline for assistance will be granted, but we will support the Guam Department of Education and the Government of Guam during the procurement process," said Phillip Schrage, SVP and Leasing Manager.
SSHS students ended the year in double session at John F. Kennedy High School.
As KUAM reported, the Guam Housing Corporation’s acreage adjacent to the Simon Sanchez campus in Yigo is also a contender to be the temporary campus.
Swanson said in both cases; there are considerations of how the space could be used.
He added both options are outlined and have been sent to officials with FEMA.
The final determination of the site option depends on FEMA's approval and zoning and land use permissions.
