Guam Community College hosts island-wide FAFSA workshops

In an effort to assist the island community looking to fund their higher education, Guam Community College will host several outreach events and Free Application for Federal Student Aid workshops.
GCC received an award of $58,783 from the Educational Credit Management Corporation, which focuses on guiding Guam students and their parents/guardians in completing and submitting the FAFSA application through Aug. 31.
The FAFSA Student Support Strategy workshops are open to all potential students regardless of age or college choice.
The FAFSA form is an application for federal student aid. Individuals seeking further education must complete the FAFSA form to apply for federal student aid such as federal grants, work-study funds, and loans.
Completing and submitting the FAFSA form is free and easier than ever, and it provides access to federal student aid—the largest source of aid—to help students pay for college or career/trade school.
In addition, many states and colleges use the FAFSA information to determine an individual’s eligibility for state and school aid. Some private aid providers may use your FAFSA information to decide if you qualify for their financial assistance.
The 2024-25 FAFSA application cycle has substantial changes to the student financial aid application process, including a new application form, new eligibility criteria, new terminology, new requirements for parents and other contributors, and a shorter timeline for applicants to submit the FAFSA.
As a result, the U.S. Department of Education believes that students and families need additional support, advice, and encouragement to complete the FAFSA form and enroll in college.
The FAFSA Student Support Strategy goal is to increase the number of students who complete a 2024-25 FAFSA and enroll in college, particularly first-time students.
Since Public Law 37-93 requires all high school seniors to complete the FAFSA as a requirement for graduation, this program is timely.
