Authorities say former President Donald Trump is safe after someone opened fired at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

One spectator was killed, another was injured, and the apparent shooter has been killed, too.

The FBI confirmed the shooter is Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Pennsylvania.

Officials in the Marianas from both sides of the aisle are condemning the attack.

“We commend the swift and heroic acts taken by the United States Secret Service, the first responders, and the local law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of former President Trump,” the Leon Guerrero – Tenorio administration stated in a news release. “There is no room for violence in politics–no matter where you stand on the issues. Cowardly acts such as this undermine the foundation of our democracy. On behalf of the people of Guam, we wish the former president and those injured at the rally a speedy recovery. We also send our condolences to the family of the innocent bystander killed by this senseless act of cowardice and violence.”

"My thoughts and prayers are with President Donald Trump and the individuals who were victims of this tragic assassination attempt of the former President and presumptive GOP presidential nominee. Sadly, one life was lost, and two other rally attendees are reported to be critically injured at this time. They were innocent victims of political violence, and this is unacceptable," said Guam Del. James Moylan. "I stand with many of my colleagues in Congress who are demanding for answers to questions on what exactly went wrong and if certain processes were not in place. If any one group or individual was indeed compromised, justice needs to be served. Campaigns should be safe environments for not just the candidates and their families, but also for their teams and their supporters. Whether this was an act led by terrorist groups, political organizations, or disgruntled individuals, we need be cautious and vigilant, and this includes campaign events in Guam."

CNMI Governor Arnold Palacios wrote, "Lt. Governor Apatang and I condemn the violence committed against former President Trump and others at a political gathering held earlier today in Pennsylvania. Cowardly acts like these undermine the core values that make our country great. We are glad that former President Trump is safe, and we offer our prayers to those who were fatally wounded or injured. Violence has no place in political discourse. We must renounce it at every chance, every opportunity we can to ensure that all members of our society — whether it’s here in our Commonwealth or in our nation’s capital — can express their political opinions and disagreements without fear or apprehension."

“The Republican Party of Guam is deeply concerned by what we and Americans around the world witnesses in Bulter, Pennsylvania at a rally being held by the soon to be named Republican Nominee for President-Donald J. Trump,” said party chairman Shawn Gumataotao. “There is no place for political violence in our country. We condemn the act against the former President. The Party is hopeful that this incident will not deter him or other political candidates for public office both in the U.S. Mainland and here in Guam for standing for the greater good of our collective American communities.”

“The Democratic Party of Guam strongly condemns the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump and political violence in any form,” the party states in a news release. “We are relieved to hear that former President Trump is safe and well. We extend our sincere condolences and prayers to the family of the innocent person whose life was reportedly taken by the shooter, and we are grateful for the swift action of federal and local law enforcement. The Democratic Party of Guam stands united in calling for peace and unity for our nation.”

The Republican Caucus of the Guam Legislature released its own statement, writing, "The horrific event that targeted President Donald J. Trump and resulted in the serious injury of two spectators and the tragic loss of an innocent life in Butler, Pennsylvania today has no place in the democracy and the form of government our country is governed by. Our citizens should not be frightened nor intimidated from sharing their views or ideas on how our government can best respond and be accountable to the community, and while there may be instances of disagreement or differences in opinion, resorting to violence will never result in a favorable outcome. Political rallies such as the event in Butler are undoubtedly highly charged and emotional. Political parties and campaigns host these events to garner support and engage their supporters. While attending a rally is not generally restricted, there is an expectation that attendance and participation is cordial and respectful. The shooting that occurred in Butler was reprehensible, cowardice, and an embarrassment for the kind of actions that members of our community have seemingly resorted to to express their opposition or dislike for a candidate, a political party, or the desire of our nation. We pray for the speedy recovery of President Trump and the two injured spectators, but, most importantly, our condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to the family of the victim who lost his life while exercising his right to support an ideal and a presidential nominee."

GOP delegates from American Samoa, Hawaii, Guam and the CNMI held a prayer circle in Milwaukee, Wisconsin following the shooting. The group, who are set to attend the 2024 Republican National Convention, posted on Facebook that Party representatives from the Pacific took time to pray for Trump immediately after the dramatic events in Pennsylvania.

The secret service personnel “neutralized” the shooter.

President Joe Biden also condemns the shooting at the Trump rally calling it “sick.”

Trump also posted online his thanks to the secret service and law enforcement involved in the response.

“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed, and also to the family of the person that was badly injured," said Trump.
