Guam, CNMI all in for Trump at Republican National Convention
It’s official, the republican party has nominated the Trump-Vance ticket in the race for the White House.
“This convention will come to order,” said Michael Whatley, Chair of the Republican National Committee.
Nearly 2,500 delegates from across the nation are in Milwaukee. This morning, former President Donald Trump and his vice-presidential running mate, first-term senator from Ohio JD Vance were formally nominated to lead the ticket in November.
Guam and CNMI each casted their 9 votes for Trump.
“We send a warm Hafa Adai and si Yu'us ma'åse' from the great territory of Guam, where America’s day begins,Tano I' Man CHamoru,” said former Governor Felix Camacho, RNC Guam delegation chair.
“The home of the newest Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz and over 20,000 members of our armed forces…and over 23,000 veterans,” added former senator and RNC delegate Tony Ada.
“The great territory of Guam proudly casts all 9 of its votes for President Donald J. Trump,” said Camacho.
“We are so proud to cast all of our votes for our President Donald J. Trump,” added Irene Holl, CNMI Chair of the RNC Delegation.
KUAM spoke with both Guam and CNMI RNC delegation chairs after they joined the roll call vote.
“The energy is great. There is a lot of excitement when you consider all that happened in the last few days of course out in Pennsylvania with the attempted assassination. People are very grateful that he will be here. We are just looking forward to the convention,” said Camacho.
“I was really not 100%, to be honest, sure about Trump before I came here. But now I can say that I am convinced, he is the best president for America…The platform is very good, solid,” said Holl.
Back at home, Guam Republican Party chair Shawn Gumataotao said the party is also sharply focused on the local race.
“I have been communicating with the RNC chairman…that the focus for Guam needs to be to win the election, up and down the ballot. Our strategy has been to get everyone out to vote to include early voting as a big push from the party,” said Shawn Camacho, Guam Republican Party Chairman.
