Over 2,600 people vote early in Guam’s primary
Early voting ends as the Guam Election Commission readies for a test election and primary day this weekend.
“To be honest with you, a clean government is all I ask, nothing else,” said Bill Duenas.
Duenas is from Santa Rita and is one of many voters who came out for the last day of early voting ahead of this weekend’s primary election.
He said he’s focused on the mayoral race and the economy is at the top of his mind.
“Because I tell you it feels like I can not deal with this anymore, I [feel] like moving out of this island really…The cost of living out here is just ridiculous and our legislature sure ain’t helping us, that is for sure, I mean, my opinion,” he said.
That’s one of many opinions driving voters early to the polls. The Guam Election Commission provided the latest numbers earlier this afternoon.
“As of this moment, we have a little over 2,600. We are expecting that number to increase because it is the last day today…after the early voting period is over we are going to take all the absentee ballots and applications and then we are going to go ahead and vet through them, package them, and get them ready for distributions on our election day,” said Guam Election Commission program coordinator, Tom San Agustin.
He said there are roughly 60,000 registered voters for the primary. They expect that number to increase by at least 3,000 for the general.
Please come out and vote this year!
