The Primary Election is just three days away and the Guam Police Department is preparing to keep it a safe one.

Your voice, and your vote matter and Guam’s local law enforcement wants to protect it. The Guam Police Department shared how they’re preparing to keep the Primary Election safe.

“It's been an ongoing thing for the past month or so. We've been coordinating with other law enforcement, local law enforcement agencies partners such as the Port Authority of Guam police, Territorial Park police, Guam Customs and Quarantine, and DYA who will be assisting us in this primary election. So we'll have GPD officers and those officers from the other agencies who have volunteered to assist us, and they will be stationed at each of the 22 polling sites throughout Guam,” said Lt. Edward Charfauros, the Primary Election Event Coordinator.

They’re tasked with providing safety and security at the polling sites for the precinct staff and voters. Each polling site will have one police officer on location across two shifts with roaming supervisors.

“One of our primary functions is also to maintain the integrity of the ballot boxes and make sure that everyone is safe for the election and to cast their vote,” Charfauros added.

A quick response team will also be checking in throughout the day and responding to any disturbances alongside patrol officers.

“The big difference from between this year and the previous elections, is that now the Guam Police Department will be responsible for, enforcing the electioneering law, which prohibits electioneering, you know, what do you call that, campaigning, within 100 ft of the entrance to the the polling sites. We just want to make sure that the public is safe and that they exercise their right to vote and do so with no intimidation or fear of doing it,” he said.
