As the administration continues to track defense spending on Guam amid the military buildup, they’re concerned that small businesses may not have their fair share of competition with billions of dollars being spent annually.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero sent a letter to the Pentagon, “strongly urging” the Department of Defense to support small businesses.

The letter, addressed to Under Secretary of Defense Dr. William Laplante, said “The DOD can contribute to a more resilient, innovative and secure industrial base by prioritizing open competition and maximizing opportunities for Guam's diverse small business community.”

She added, “By working together, we can create a thriving ecosystem in Guam that supports our national security interests and the prosperity of our community.”
