Repeatedly shaking his head “no” inside the courtroom, convicted child molester Gregorio Denamarquez gets seven years in the Department of Corrections.

He was allowed to remain freed under electronic monitoring while he fought his conviction before justices in the Supreme Court of Guam.

In April, a jury found Denamarquez guilty of three counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct.

His accuser, a teenage girl, was back inside Judge Vernon Perez courtroom today testifying in front of the man she called her uncle.

She said, “It dates back to my younger years. I did not know how wrong things were until I was no longer that kid. I was forced to grow older being hit with the reality and shown the hardships…it hit me the worst in 8th grade.”

The teen testified that her mental and physical health were negatively impacted stating, “At a point I couldn't grasp a reason to be alive…though I did not sleep a lot – when I did I had constant recurring nightmares of him trying to hurt me, waking up sweating occasionally.”

The victim told her abuser she lives with panic attacks, as the situation resulted in a family being divided with some instead choosing to believe Denamarquez.

The teen added, “I want to feel safe in the world he walks. It would be a safer world without him.”

In response, Denamarquez stated, “I have not done anything. I truly love them.”

Judge Perez sentenced him to seven years for each count to run concurrently, which means seven years total locked up followed by three years’ parole.

Perez told the teen, “I am very glad that you have demonstrated the courage and the bravery to come in here and tell me what you told me...I'm just glad it wasn’t much worse.”

The court allowed Denamarquez to remain out of prison until after his appeal before the high court.

He was ordered to continue to have no contact and to stay away from the victim.
