A second case of pertussis or whooping cough is confirmed in Guam.

The Department of Public Health and Social Services confirmed one additional case late Friday.

Health officials said this new case was identified through their investigation.

Again, it's the second pertussis case in Guam.

No additional exposures have been identified.

Pertussis is a vaccine-preventable disease. Pertussis is known to be a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by bacteria.

It can cause severe coughing fits up to 10 weeks or more, followed by a high-pitched sound when breathing in.
