A scare at Naval Base Guam has forced the military facility to go on lockdown.

Residents and patrons on the base have been directed to remain indoors and to shelter in place.

Details of the situation have not yet been released.

The Navy posted on social media that security personnel are responding to a security incident.  

The main gate has been closed and visitors are being advised to remain clear of all Naval Base facilities.

Officials add outbound traffic is open.
