Classes have been canceled today for students attending school on the John F. Kennedy High campus following multiple social media threats.

This means no school today for both JFK and Simon Sanchez High School students, who are currently in double session at the Upper Tumon campus.

Guam Department of Education Superintendent Eric Swanson confirmed the threat around 9:30pm Thursday.

“Within the past thirty minutes, there continues to be threats posted on social media focused on the campuses of JFK and SSHS,” said Dr. Swanson in a news release. “For necessary precautions and safety of the students and school staff, the campuses at JFK and SSHS will be closed…”

Officials confirmed the school initiated safety protocols and secured students to a safe location whenever the threats were discovered. GDOE officials told KUAM all students were safe and released to their parents.

Officers with the Guam Police Department were called to the campus to assist and investigate the threat.

No word if authorities have identified any suspects.

As of early Friday morning, GPD had not released any information about the threats.
