A vibrant sea of pink filled the Office of the Governor this morning as breast cancer warriors, health care providers, advocates, and supporters gathered in solidarity for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This year’s theme, “Empowerment Through Awareness,” highlights the importance of education, access to care, and early detection of the most common cancer worldwide.

In Guam, breast cancer ranks as the second leading cause of cancer death among women but there is reason for hope, as the five-year survival rate for women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer soars to around 99%.

Radiologist, Dr. Peachy Piana shared this life-saving message today.

“Our message today is simple—early detection through screening can save lives…Together, we can reduce the impact of breast cancer and give more women the chance for long, healthy lives,” said Piana.

If you are a woman 25-years and older, talk to your health care provider about a breast cancer risk assessment for the best screening options that are right for you.
