Former Guam & Saipan magicians pick up the pieces in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton has left destruction in its wake for many in Florida. Former Guam and Saipan residents Ryan and Chris Zubrick, along with their son, Oliver, are currently picking up the pieces.

“It was of course heartbreaking to say the least. We never expected it,” said the Zubricks.

The family is locally known for their talent on stage as magicians. They’ve since relocated to St. Petersburg.

Their home was in a no flood and no evacuation zone but Ryan shared the family didn’t take any chances.

“With Milton like all the other ones we decided to skip town just for the safety of everything. We did and upon our return we were very surprised to see that we had received about 22 – 23 inches of water surrounding our house and much of that water got into the house despite us sandbagging it and taking all the necessary precautions. It still finds its way in,” said Ryan.

It was a tough reality to return home to.

“Almost all of our belongings made it out to the street corner as we threw everything away, and we had to throw everything away as mold will start to set in very soon,” added Ryan.

An eye opening experience especially for their son as well.

“Of course, seeing it through Oliver’s eyes, a 7-year-old who has toys and belongings that mean the world to him and having to throw those away and having to explain that to him has made it even more difficult,” he said.

The couple are temporarily staying in their magic show theater, which fortunately was spared any damage but like many they are still without electricity.

The Zubricks, who brought smiles through magic to the Marianas for years, are now left rebuilding their new home from the ground up.

“Slowly, things are coming back but it will be a long process to get that home rebuilt,” he said.
