The new public hospital for Guam will be located in Mangilao along Route 15 known as the back road to Andersen Air Force Base.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero made the announcement from Adelup on Monday afternoon.
The site is located next to Eagles Field, which was an initial site proposed that did not get complete approval from the legislature.
It is private property.
She confirms the courts approved the sale of the 48 acre lot last Thursday, which was under the Estate of Catalina Eclavea Camacho. The Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority helped to secure the land.
The site was appraised at $3.5 million.
“I am very happy for the people of Guam. Now we are very clear on the direction,” said Gov. Leon Guerrero, as she mentioned the struggles faces when juggling the administration’s options to renovate the current Tamuning facility or find land elsewhere. “It’s really is going to be almost impossible to renovate a hospital and continue its operations at the same time,”
The governor said she has $120 million on ARP money set aside that she wants to use for the preparatory and construction of the new hospital. She said she would also seek federal grant funding and Department of Defense funding among others to build it.
“Our strategy is to try and get ground breaking in the next year, year and a half for our hospital,” she said. “Once that happens we will probably have a new hospital in the next four or five years.”
