A  solemn farewell to the late former Governor Paul McDonald Calvo.

Loved ones, island leaders, and dignitaries coming together to remember his legacy in a state memorial service at the Guam Congress building Thursday.

The 37th Legislature, Governor and Lt. Governor presented family members with a resolution and proclamation to posthumously recognize his extraordinary deeds for the island.

His son, former Governor Edward JB Calvo, delivered the eulogy describing his dad’s last week on earth as one of a deep and peaceful sleep.

“I really believe that my dad did take that final memorable tour of the people and places that he cared so much for,” said Calvo.

He is remembered as a pioneer in both public and private sectors, energized by his tremendous love for the island, his family and faith.

And a real life hero to his loved ones.

“As any kid growing up in the 60’s with Marvel and DC, I read a lot of comic books. My superheroes were guys like Superman, Batman and Aquaman. Though all those were fictional characters, I did live amongst a real life superhero. Paul M. Calvo was my real life superman. He was our family’s legend. And now to borrow a quote my father would have done if he watched the Game of Thrones series, and he loved to watch tv, ‘we shall never see his light again.’ Adios tata-hu. Esta manhalihit talu. Hu guaiya hao,” said Calvo.

Also this morning, all Government of Guam operations pause for three minutes in honor of Calvo, the island's third elected Governor.

The brief period of silence from 8 a.m. to 8:03 a.m. to reflect on Gov. Calvo's life and what he did for our community.
