Inside the Home of the Wildcats, 6th graders at Untalan Middle school are standing up against bullying.

Chants of, “No to the hate and intolerance of others. They say yes to choosing kindness,” were heard.

School counselors like Dhyana Edwards held their annual presentation for National Bullying Prevention Month Friday morning.

“Raise your hands if you say yes, bullying happens on campus. We know it happens on campus. Yes, unfortunately a lot of you are raising your hands and that’s why we’re here today. We’re going to make that stop right guys,” said Edwards.

An exciting morning inside the school gym as students learn how to recognize the signs, stop bullies in a kind and responsible way, and most importantly to be proud of who they are.

UMS Principal Agnes Guerrero said it’s all about making sure students feel safe and accepted coming to school everyday.

“Really the bottom line when they go out is to encourage students to spread the act of kindness wherever you’re at. And with the counseling presentation, it’s not just a presentation. It’s an interactive engagement with students and roleplaying and understanding that bullying can happen to basically anyone,” said Guerrero.

The students also got a surprise visit from a very special blue penguin waddling all the way from Tokyo, Japan.

The Don Don Donki mascot admits he too was bullied when he was little.

So to make him feel better, the Wildcats broke out in a dance number to remind him he’s a star.
