The CNMI Department of Public Safety responded to a disturbing the peace incident at Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Middle School around 9:41 a.m. Tuesday.

CNMI DPS said their initial investigation revealed that a male student threatened and pointed what others believed to be a handgun to other students inside a restroom. “As the incident was reported by the students, a shelter in place procedure was then initiated by the School,” CNMI DPS explained in a statement.

Detectives later found the suspect at a building near the campus and recovered an “air type toy pistol” from the student’s home in Chalan Kanoa.

The all-clear was issued at 12:15 p.m.

DPS said, “Suspect to this incident was not arrested. He has been released to his parents pending further investigation.”
