Governor Lou Leon Guerrero vetoed a portion of the supplemental budget bill, along with a procurement measure for the Guam Fire Department.
Leon Guerrero stated the $50.8 million will fund critical needs such as cost of living allowance for retirees, support police officer trainees, correction officer and firefighter recruits, funding for the Guam Memorial Hospital, Department of Administration payments for individual credit card fees and urgent funding for Guam Cancer Trust Fund.
However, she vetoed section two of the supplemental budget that would appropriate more than $15 million for a three-month extension of the energy credit program, stating GovGuam cannot promise people assistance that may never come.
Bill 362 which would grant special crisis procurement authority for the Guam Fire Department to meet criteria set by the National Fire Protection Association was also vetoed Wednesday.
The Governor stated the bill lacks a key priority in government procurements and accountability.
She suggests the legislature amend the current procurement code to correct any issues.
