A state of emergency has been declared as Guam anticipated the approach of Tropical Storm Man-yi.

Acting Governor Josh Tenorio has signed Executive Order No. 2024-05 late Tuesday afternoon.

This authorizes overtime and emergency procurement for heavy equipment rental, debris removal, nursing and medical support services for the North and Southern Community Health Centers, Guam Department of Education storm shelter operations, lodging for displaced residents, and the purchase of supplies, materials, goods, services or other expenditures, up to a combined total maximum of $250,000.

Storm warning

A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. This means tropical storm force conditions including winds of 39 mph or greater are expected to develop early Wednesday morning.

As of 5 pm, the storm was located 195 miles east-northeast of Guam and 160 miles east of Rota.

Man-yi is moving west at 18 mph. Maximum sustained winds remain at 45 mph. It is expected to intensify through Wednesday, passing near Rota as a strong tropical storm.

Hospital hours

As the storm approaches, the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority will begin accepting pregnant mothers who are 36 weeks or more and all high-risk pregnant mothers who are 24 weeks or more in their pregnancy.

The hospital began accepting mothers following the announcement of COR2 at 5 pm today.

Visiting hours at GMH and at Guam Regional Medical City have been suspended.
