Recent reports of the avian flu detected in Hawaii has the Guam Department of Agriculture expanding the poultry ban effective immediately.

This includes all live poultry imports and hatching eggs from Hawaii.

On Friday, the Hawai’i Department of Agriculture announced its first detection of the flu found in a mixed species backyard poultry flock.

The virus strain detected matches the strain that has affected poultry and dairy cattle in the U.S. mainland.

No local cases have been reported.

Local officials are in contact with the cdc should it reach our island.

Experts said the current detections do not present an immediate human health concern for the general public.
