The search is ongoing for the suspect who called in a bomb threat at the Micronesia Mall Friday afternoon.
The threat forced employees and customers to evacuate for a couple of hours until authorities could give the all clear.
Guam Police Chief Stephen Ignacio said they are narrowing down their suspects.
“The investigation is still very fluid. We were able to narrow down where the call came from but because we are still in the process of the investigation. We are not able to disclose any further information. As far as narrowing down the suspect, it all just takes the team to continue looking into the matter. But, we were able to trace the origin of the call and we continue working with our Criminal Investigation Division to move forward,” said Ignacio.
“There are very serious implications when making a bomb threat. First, it causes a business like Micronesia Mall to shut down and have to evacuate…We had at least five K-9 explosive detective dogs that were there…so it takes a lot of resources. For us, we had to use Tamuning precinct to cover for Dededo while we deployed all our resources from Dededo precinct just to investigate this threat. In addition, there are economic harm with the businesses within the mall. They were closed at least two hours. A lot of people were inconvenienced by this. Bomb threats are not to be taken lightly,” he added.
As we reported, authorities found there was no credible threat.
Again, the search for the suspect is ongoing.
