Navy sailor accused in auto-pedestrian crash released from prison

The Navy sailor who stands accused of driving drunk before hitting a pedestrian is released from prison. 

Defendant Nikita Owens is released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond. 

Prosecutors note he faces a maximum of six years in prison, if convicted. 

Joint Region Marianas officials confirmed Owens is a U.S. Navy sailor assigned to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Guam.

The Navy is fully cooperating with local authorities. 

As we reported, it was early Sunday when Owens was driving from Tumon to Yigo when he allegedly hit a pedestrian along Route 1 in Dededo. 

The man is recovering from non-life threatening injuries. 

Court documents state Owens blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.
