The island records its 14th traffic-related death today.

Guam police confirmed 48-year-old Alicia Cruz was walking along a dark area of Route 4 in Chalan Pago when she was hit by a pickup truck heading north.

It happened just after midnight Tuesday.

Investigators said the driver tried to swerve out of the way prior to the crash.

The Mangilao woman was rushed to the Guam Regional Medical City.

Initially, first responders believed she would survive her injuries but doctors confirmed she was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.

Guam Highway Patrol officers were at the scene around sunrise to investigate.

Officers temporarily closed northbound lanes while determining how the crash occurred.

GPD extends its condolences to Cruz's family during this difficult time.
