Airline passengers transiting through Honolulu can expect an easier time

It has been through continuous efforts from Sen. Jesse Lujan and Congressman James Moylan that changes the baggage policy when transiting through Honolulu from Guam have finally been made.

Lujan said he was  hearing complaints daily from travelers about the baggage policy,  which he said was inconvenient for the elderly, and families with young children.

Since early last year, he has been advocating for a more streamlined procedure.

Traveling now through Guam will be less tedious, and is a definite relief for passengers.  Lujan is thankful for the Transportation Security Administration making the necessary change.

“Hawaii reverted back to what it was before but we don't want them to again at any time soon or down the line to do what they did again, right? So we want a permanent solution and we're working on that and trying to get pre-clearance here with CBP and TSA with our bags here of course going beyond the point of hawaii.so that's the longterm solution,” added Lujan.

As we reported, TSA established a new alternative operating procedure, designating a bag drop location within the airport's sterile area.

The area would be close to the baggage carousel making the transition easier for passengers. Lujan said along with finding a longterm solution, he is also working on petitioning the Department of Transportation to exempt Guam and the CNMI for at least 24 months from Cabotage laws.
