Ex-Palau prosecutor arrested in Saipan on active warrant out of Texas
A woman suing the President of Palau is placed under arrest in Saipan.
Christa Toribiong was arrested at the Saipan International Airport Monday afternoon.
CNMI Department of Public Safety officials said she is wanted on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, firearm in Grayson county, Texas.
Officials told KUAM the state of Texas will not extradite defendants located outside of the 50 states.
So, Toribiong will be released from the Department of Corrections on Saipan.
Earlier this year, she along with her husband, former Palau President Johnson Toribiong filed a lawsuit against current President Surangel Whipps.
Whipps declared her an undesirable alien, barring her from entering the country.
Christa, who previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in Palau before being blacklisted, alleges the decision was made without justification.
