Attorney General wants court to dismiss charges against Dr. Akoma

A local doctor accused of molesting his patient could get the charges against him in Superior Court dismissed.
Attorney General Doug Moylan wants the misdemeanor criminal sexual conduct charges against Dr. Ugochukwu Akoma dismissed without prejudice.
Moylan stated prosecutors do not believe that a jury will convict him beyond a reasonable doubt, adding his office does not prosecute cases that have a high likelihood of acquittal.
Dr. Akoma’s case resulted in a mistrial back in April.
If the court grants a dismissal without prejudice, then prosecutors could bring back the charges against the defendant.
However, Defense Attorney Jay Arriola told KUAM they will ask for a dismissal with prejudice and ask the court to sanction the AG for “its frivolous appeal and utter waste of time.”
