The Bureau of Women’s Affairs is grateful for the community’s support of its projects aimed at helping some of Guam’s most vulnerable populations this Christmas season.

BWA is currently coordinating two gift-giving efforts: One for the children living at I Guma Mina’ase’ Sister Mary Brigid Perez, Guam’s foster care facility under the Department of Public Health and Social Services.

And another for the children of mothers enrolled in substance abuse recovery programs through Transforming Ourselves through Healing, Growth, & Enrichment, Guam’s only peer-run recovery community.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the ladies of the Guam Council of Women’s Clubs, along with several of our nurses and other caring individuals, for stepping up to provide Christmas gifts to the children at I Guma Mina’ase’,” said BWA Director Jayne Flores. “Their generosity proves that the true meaning of Christmas lies in helping the most vulnerable among us.”

Flores also recognized Bank of Guam employees for their Project Sottera donations of menstrual and hygiene products to BWA.

In addition, BWA is assisting the Office of the Governor in purchasing Christmas gifts for children of mothers in recovery through TOHGE’s peer-run community.

“For the past three years, staff at Adelup, together with Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio, have joined forces to bring holiday cheer to these families,” said Flores. “We’re proud to support this initiative because we understand how much it means to these mothers, who are working hard to rebuild their lives, to see their children receive Christmas gifts.”
