Class action lawsuit filed against the prison alleging inhumane conditions
Living in cruel and in humane conditions, detainee Jesse Leon Guerrero along with a number of other prisoners have filed a class action lawsuit.
It's against the Department of Corrections and its Director Fred Bordallo.
The prisoners contend they are cramped in cells with no lights, no window, no air conditioning and some are forced to sleep on the floor.
They are asking a Superior Court judge to declare that DEPCOR violated the Organic Act and put a stop to their “illegal practices.”
Prison leaders have been well aware of the overcrowding for years.
DEPCOR’s Major Maryhelen Lizama recently asked the Attorney General for the release of pretrial detainees charged with misdemeanors, drug possession, traffic violators, along with release and deporting non-U.S. citizens to their home country.
