Knights outlast Cougars in 56-53 thriller to capture St. John's first girls high school basketball title
The St. John's Knights made history Monday night, winning their first ever high school girls' basketball championship. The Knights defeated the Academy Cougars 56-53 in an action-packed tight game at the UOG Calvo Field House. Last year's reigning IIAAG league MVP Jia Peters led the team with 26 points.
Freshman Zoe Whitehead also chipped in 12 points and 16 rebounds with some key blocked shots down the stretch.
The Knights’ Teia Ada-Vibar sank the game winning 3-point shot and sealed the historic victory.
Meanwhile, Maria Paulino led the Cougars with 26 points, followed by Madeleine Ada with 10 points.
The JFK islanders took home 3rd place, defeating defending champions St. Paul Warriors by just one point.
