The Chamorro Land Trust Commission conducted their first site inspection of the former Yigo Raceway on Monday alongside the Guam Motorsports Association.

GMA Vice Chair John Burch told KIUAM the site inspection went well but they noticed “a lot of overgrowth and vandalism.”

He said, “It baffles me to hear that the CLTC and certain legislatures were in such a rush to shut that place down and had no plan or idea to maintain or at a minimum keep the property in the state that they received it in more than a year ago.”

But he remains hopeful that GMA will get the place open and running once again and hopes CLTC and its board can work together with GMA to get it done quickly.

Burch said three GMA members, four CLTC staff, and one board member drove around the property.

GMA identified the areas they are interested in renting and the CLTC marked corners with a hand-held GPS device.

CLTC is expected to create a map based on Monday’s measurements and share it with GMA and CLTC commissioners.

The lease negotiation subcommittee will have a meeting to determine terms that both CLTC and GMA can work with.

As reported, CLTC is mandated by a public law passed in September to negotiate a lease for all or a portion of the former raceway to GMA with a 90-day deadline that passed on Dec. 10.

CLTC and GMA have had a handful of meetings but have yet to agree on the terms of a lease.
