Anti-Drug Task Force bill passes
Senators recessed session until Dec. 30 in anticipation of the Governor vetoing any of the items passed overnight.
One of those measures would stand up an Anti-Drug Task Force.
Senator Chris Duenas' Bill 250 got enough votes to be sent to the Governor's desk.
If signed into law, it would establish a multi agency unified law enforcement group known as “Mauleg.”
The group's mission would be to stop drugs from being smuggled and sold on the island.
As reported, if the number of police officers falls below 70% of the ideal 550 level, then Mauleg would be authorized to pull resources from some 15 government agencies and law enforcement entities to patrol the streets.
Senator Duenas previously said more law enforcement visibility is critical to keeping criminals off-balance.
