Guam’s longtime and only pathologist, Dr. Mohammed Alsabban, is soon to retire. The physician has been providing his services to both the Guam Memorial Hospital and Guam Regional Medical City.

GMH spokesperson Cindy Hansen tells KUAM News he provided notice to GMH of his retirement early on to allow the hospital to find his replacement. Hansen says Dr. Alsabban is currently on leave, adding, "He is leaving in early 2025, but until that time, he is still with GMHA. We are welcoming a new pathologist, Dr. Jerold Scott.

She noted that Scott arrived on island in mid-December.

According to GRMC’s website, Dr. Alsabban is hailed as a "medical detective" who examines tissue and blood samples looking for evidence of disease.

GRMC says he plays a critical role in diagnosing and evaluating disorders using the sophisticated tools available to him as the medical director of the private hospital's lab.
