A miraculous rescue near Palau has eight missing divers safely returning home.

Eight divers reported missing off Peleliu Corner on Dec. 26 were found alive on Dec. 27. The successful rescue was the result of a collaborative effort led by Palau authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Joint Rescue Sub-Center Guam took over as search and rescue coordinator when the search area extended into the USCG’s region.

A local fisherman ultimately found the group before the Patrol Vessel PSS H.I. Remeliik II could arrive.

All eight individuals, seven tourists and one guide, were rescued in good condition.

U.S. Coast Guard Commander Ryan Crose credited the local community and advanced search tools for the successful outcome.
