Were you able to keep your new year’s resolutions in 2024? If not, don’t worry - there’s a whole new year ahead of us to try again! But if you were able to, we want to know what are some new goals you set for yourself?
New year, new you!
Gregorio Crisostomo from Inalahan told KUAM News, “I hope it’s better than 2024.” It's a popular phrase that’s on top of the minds of many ringing in a fresh 2025. Local residents are ready to step into the best versions of themselves, reflecting on the resolutions that’ll help them do just that.
From nurturing family bonds like the Arellano family, where John said, “Be a better father," and his wife saying, “Be a better mother", to prioritizing self-care, like former KUAM reporter Jolene Toves.
“I had my baby last year. She’s a New Year’s baby. I spent the year just focusing on her so I must focus on myself. So, one of my New Year's resolutions is to get healthy because there is a lot going on over here," she said.
For Porzia Rinpos, it's all about saving what's in her wallet, as she said, “Cut down on my expenses.”
Residents also shared their vision for the island's future, from hopes for a strong rebound for the island’s visitor industry. Rinpos, from Harmon, simply said, “More tourists.”
Neighbor also commented on their hopes for progress in the island economy, with one resident, Patsy saying, “We need a pay raise on Guam because the prices are going up, and the money is still the same. People are really suffering.”
While others wish for tighter laws to safeguard the local community. Toves said, “Strengthening our criminal laws–when it comes to criminal sexual assault victims. So, I’d like to see progress in all of those areas, and of course, that’s going to take a big legislative effort.”
It’s all things to look forward to as the new year brings opportunity and room for growth.
