Pedestrian struck in Dededo on New Years Day dies from injuries
The man who was hit by a car while crossing the street in Dededo early Wednesday died from his injuries.
It happened around 6am along Route 1 Marine Corps Drive near the Route 3 NCS intersection on New Year's Day.
According to Guam Police Department Spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella, investigators with the Highway Patrol Division learned the driver of a GMC truck was headed south on the inner lane of Route 1 before hitting the pedestrian.
Authorities confirm the unidentified man was not at a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
Police believe the victim was hit by a second driver in a dark-colored SUV.
Authorities have no additional details about the make or model of the suspect's car.
Savella said that driver fled.
The pedestrian was rushed to GRMC where he later died from his injuries.
Police are asking the community for help to track down the driver involved in what has become the first deadly crash of the year on Guam.
